What is Family Intervention?
Intervention is a therapeutic process, originally developed by Vernon Johnson over 30 years ago, intended to create a “controlled crisis” for the addicted person rather than waiting for the individual to “hit bottom” or die.

An intervention, facilitated by a trained, credentialed and experienced professional, is done in a calm, caring and loving manner. The purpose is to present the reality of the addiction and its effect on loved ones, as well as the alcoholic/addict in a way that can be heard and accepted by the individual. Logic and reason have been tried but often fail against the defenses and denial of addiction.

The immediate goal of the intervention is to have the person enter an appropriate treatment facility. In better than 90% of the cases, when the process has been conducted by a professional interventionist, the patient enters treatment as a result of the intervention. In any event, the family and group received education, support, and referrals to resources that are appropriate for them and the healing of their pain.
